Where is it?

Bordered by Addison road, Pulaski road, Belmont Avenue, the Kennedy, Diversey, Western avenue and the north branch of the Chicago river, Avondale is a community located on the Northwest side of Chicago.

Why is it called Avondale?

It is possible that Avondale was named by it's developer John Lewis Cochran in honor of the miners and rescue workers who died in the Avondale coal mine fire.

What makes it special?

Long known as "the neighborhood that built Chicago", Avondale's past includes recognizable manufacturing and distribution companies such as: Florsheim shoes, Dad's root beer, and Yardley Plastics.  It also had several brick yards and clay pits along Belmont avenue.
